A long awaited update...

Because it's been awhile since we last updated, I've decided that all of you readers should get to view a handful of thriftstore nightmares we've come across these last few months... I wish this was for your viewing pleasure, but with any of these finds, you know how that goes....

Alright, first up we have the Deluxe Bedazzler! If the marketing angle is to dress up my clothing with studs and jewels to make myself look cooler, the people who made this product definitely messed up when they found this girl model. If I end up looking like her I might as well punch myself in the face because any normal person would beat the crap out of a dweeb like her... Especially a dweeb stuck in 1976 with a studded jacket... Come on...

Next we have a handcrafted coffee mug entitled "DAD". Because what better way to celebrate Dad's existence than with a mug that resembles some type of poop troll?

Okay now, let's see here... What is this? Oh, uh... A mummified, earless, bear monster?

Oh wait, scratch that. It's a squatting cat ash tray! Right... A squatting cat ash tray... You know, I don't even think you could find this piece in your weird next door neighbor cat lady's house.

Moving far, far away from that nightmare...

And some of these other nightmares have no descriptions. They just are what they are.

A half broken Jesus.

Legless bull rider.

Siamese Twins from Hell

I hope that this entry was sufficient enough to tide you over for now. I apologize for our absence on this website and promise to try and update it more often, but with a toddler running around and a husband who is a programmer, the two of us are constantly working on various new projects around the web, as well as chasing the little one. Rest assured that we always are on the look out for new nightmares, though! Thriftstore Nightmares is always one of our favorite hobbies, so be on the look out for new additions!

Looking to show off that wild side of yours?

At first it was about saving an animal's dignity... Then it was about the fashion never really taking off... Now though, it's all about saving our eyesight. Seriously people, have animal prints ever really been that popular? Is it just cool to some people to wear their favorite animal's fur print? Yeah, that makes sense... I like zebras so let me go blend in with a bunch of them!

We all have seen these types of clothes worn at some point. I suppose it's all up to personal style... So next time your local trailer park lady waddles out of her humble home, point her to the direction of the nearest Salvation Army. She'll be sure to find these babies for a nice price.

Fashion any computer nerd can enjoy...

Because there is nothing better than a visor made out of a hideous mouse pad and shoelaces.

Looking for that rare find?

Well then, this might be for you...

Yuck!

As I felt the material of this dress I felt as if I'd get some sort of fabric splinter. It comes to no surprise that the price tag is still intact and attached to this garment. And what is this I spy?

Huh. Rare, eh? Well, I can see why it would be rare... Or at least why they would only make one. The only people I see wearing this dress are either of the Amish persuasion or Pilgrims... Let's walk away from this one and try our hardest to forget it, shall we?

I don't know about you...

But I think these two items were just meant to be sold together...

And

I mean, if you got into a guy's car and saw that shirt, wouldn't you expect for him to have that car cassette player? And if you got into a guy's car and saw that car cassette player, wouldn't you expect to find him wearing that outrageous shirt?

Here's our first reader-submitted thrift store nightmare:

I'm sure an entire blog in and of itself could be dedicated to horrible, trashy, and/or random t-shirts found at thrift stores. I find it fun to picture the type of person who would wear each t-shirt. For example, I picture a slightly overweight amateur radio nerd with pit stains wearing this Phyllis Diller shirt... My gut reaction is to picture it on a hipster, but this is slightly too bad and too obscure a reference to be considered in vogue by any respectable hipster.

Thanks to Tristan for this.......... shirt.

I'm proud to say that I'm almost fully recovered from the strange disease I caught a week ago from that horrible thrift store. While k8 has recovered fully and quickly, there are still a few bumps in the road ahead for me due to a throat infection complication.

Check out this horrendous eyesore:

Seriously... Does anyone EVER find this crap remotely amusing or clever? This "internet tie" (and I use the term "internet" loosely here) is probably from those early years of the information age when the average person couldn't instantly tell that this tie was complete nonsense. Back then this item would have been considered somewhat cool in that dorky middle-aged guy sort of way, nowadays this thing says "pathetic virgin (and staying that way) loser who shops at thrift stores in a non-ironic way."

Then there's this piece of crap:

I'm sure we've all received a crappy gift from Grandma just like this... and just like this it inevitably ends up on the shelf in a thrift store.

EDIT: I still can't get over that tie... How does a long string of zeros represent the internet, or anything, for that matter?

Pretty In Pink?

This folks, is what we call a fashion nightmare. We've all seen one outfit or another throughout our lives where we just have to sit back, pause, and take it in. Who in their right mind would have EVER found something like this fashionable!? Even in the 80s, though it was a horrifying decade for any type of apparel, I find endless amounts of disbelief in acknowledging the fact that someone, somewhere, wore this. My guess is that a psychotic bride forced her brides maids to wear dresses like these after hours of Chinese water torture... I try to convince myself that it was something a little more rational, like some blind chick going to the prom... But I know somehow that someone once adored this dress, and that in itself makes me cringe uncontrollably. I think it's best to just walk away from this one...
